Hey Raccoon Community!
What a fun start to the new year! I can’t thank you enough for your support in
helping make sure we had a successful first couple of days. While I know we
have a few kinks to work out in our routines and structures, overall it’s been
great so far! From the energy and excitement of Open House, to seeing our
upperclassmen mentor our freshmen last Thursday, to the sense of optimism that
filled our halls and classrooms on Friday, there was a special feeling around
campus this last week!
As we ease into our routines and work through some of the challenges that come with a new year, I wanted to draw our attention to some key resources and remind everyone of our community norms. Below are several resources and information we shared with students during the first days of school. I encourage families to check them out so we are all on the same page heading into the new year. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Community
Norms and Commitments
Below
are several community norms that we have, or will, discuss as a school
community:
- Community Commitments
commitments focus on holding ourselves and each other accountable for our
actions while in class. They are a common set of expectations in every
classroom that address procedures around lunch period, cell phones, and
hallway access during class time.
- RCC—Raccoon
Community Connection (CLICK HERE): Our daily
announcements play at 8:55am most mornings. Families and students can
watch the event live or the replay at any time. Consider bookmarking this
link for easy and quick access.
- Pride Period (CLICK HERE): Mrs. Anders
will review the expectations and procedures around our flexible learning
period, known as Pride period, during RCC on Thursday, September 8.
However, you can clink the link above to review the purpose of and
procedures around Pride period.
- You Can Book
Me (CLICK HERE): You can schedule a meeting with your
counselor or a member of our Student Services team through this
appointment-booking app. Please note that you can still swing down, email,
or call your counselor at any time, especially regarding time-sensitive
topics.
Homecoming
Get Your Groove on Ocon! Homecoming 2022 is just two weeks away! There are so many ways to get involved and have some fun during Homecoming week. Keep watching RCC for details.

Start Strong
The
term will go fast… they all do! In just a few weeks, I will email you about our
first set of family-teacher conferences scheduled for early October. Families
are welcome to connect with the following resources to help support their
Raccoons:
- Follow your
student’s classes on Canvas. Click here for directions on how to
monitor and follow a student’s Canvas account.
- Check grades
in Skyward frequently. Teachers are committed to updating grades at least
once a week.
I think that covers it! Please reach out to me at CurtisJ@oasd.org, your Associate Principal, or your counselor if you have any questions. Have a great week!
