Hey Raccoon Community!
We are just a few weeks away from the start of the 2021-2022 school year… AH!!!! Let's get ready to have some fun!
Anyone who has been around campus at all over the last week can tell that school is starting soon. Our parking lots are filling up with student athletes coming for practices and student leaders working to get their clubs up and running, our custodians have been hard at work getting everything painted and situated, our halls are bustling with teachers making sure they are prepared for the start of the year, and our offices have been busy helping register new families, answering any questions, and making sure everything is perfect for the new year! There is a buzz in the air and the energy is electric!
While we certainly don’t want to wish away time, it is important to turn our attention to the start of the new year. Outlined below are several important dates and details to help each Raccoon feel prepared. Students, staff, and families are asked to take a few minutes to review all the important information outlined below, including the following….
A reminder about student schedules
Introductions of our new staff members
Information about Open House and Picture Make-Up Day on August 24
Details and logistics about Freshmen Orientation and First Day of Classes for all grades

Calendar reminders and updates
Please enjoy the last few weeks of the warm weather, sit by a few more campfires, and find some time to sleep in before the real fun starts in September! In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. You can contact me at CurtisJ@oasd.org or call our main office at 262-560-3109.
See you soon! Go Raccoons!

Freshmen First Day of School on Wednesday, September 1 (7:20am-2:40pm)
A few years ago, we began the tradition of having the first day of school be designated as an orientation day for our incoming freshmen. On Wednesday, September 1, only freshmen and the upperclassmen supporting their transition should report to school. The schedule for the day is as follows:
Freshmen Welcome Rally (7:20am-9:00am)
Freshmen Orientation (9:00am-11:00am)
Class of 2025 Welcome Tailgate (11:00am-11:45am): Lunch Provided!
Group Scavenger Hunt (12:00pm-1:00pm)
Living Our Values: Grounded, Committed, and Accountable (1:00pm-2:10pm)
Pep Rally (2:10pm-2:40pm)
Dismissal is at 2:40pm and the buses depart at 2:47pm
This day is designed to help you feel confident and ready when your fellow Raccoons join us for our first day of classes on Thursday, September 2. Dress comfortably and don’t worry about bringing a thing. Lunch will be provided, and we have options to accommodate a variety of dietary needs. However, you are welcome to bring your lunch if you prefer. This is a required attendance day for freshmen students and buses will operate under their normal routines and schedules.
Details on supporting our incoming freshmen transition are available by clicking here.
Transfer Students in Grades 10-12
Students and families who have recently moved or are open enrolling to OHS are invited for a family dinner and meeting with your counselor on Monday, August 30 at 6:00pm. Please click here to sign up.
Please don’t be afraid to reach out to your counselor or call our office if you have any questions about our various events and traditions!
Make sure to register for a time to visit during Open House. That is when you will be able to pick up your Chromebook and other materials.
First Day of Classes on Thursday, September 2 (7:20am-2:40pm)
Alright Raccoons… here we go! Let’s all commit to being in our Block A/Hour 1 classes by 7:20am. It’s going to be the best year of your life!
There is not a modified schedule for this day. However, we will have Pride homeroom and operate under the traditional Monday schedule. You can click here to view our daily schedule.
You Can’t Hide that Ocon Pride!
There is no doubt that last year left us all feeling a little isolated as many of our community events and traditions were modified or canceled. However, it’s a new year and we are excited to bring back our traditional social events! Please mark your calendars…
Welcome Back Tailgate (Friday, September 3)
Our first home football game with unlimited capacity and a full student section is on Friday, September 3 against Waukesha West at 7:00pm. To celebrate this event, we will have some Raccoon fun planned!
Welcome Back Pep Rally! We will operate under our modified assembly schedule. Classes will end at 1:50pm and we will come together for our first assembly in 2 years. Families are welcome to attend and should enter through the Gale Douglas Field House by 1:45pm.
Student Tailgate! We will have games, music, food, and other events for our students in the Raccoon Tailgate Zone. Food can be purchased with cash or by using your lunch account code and student ID. The party starts at 4:00pm and ends at 6:45pm.
Keep watching for updates from the Student Council about spirit day competitions!
Homecoming Week (Sunday, September 26-Saturday, October 2)
Oh my gosh, HOMECOMING—the best week of the year! We look forward to restarting all the traditions that were put on pause last year. We will be sharing a ton of details throughout September, but for now, save the date for these key events:
Sunday, September 26 at 10:00am: Window Painting at Village Green
Wednesday, September 29 at 7:00pm: Powder Puff Football Game at Rux Stadium
Friday, October 1: Pep Rally at 1:45pm; Parade at 5:15pm; Football v. Mukwonago at 7:00pm
Saturday, October 2 from 8:00pm-11:00pm: Dance at OHS!
Mitigation Measures
Our Superintendent, Dr. Taylor, sent a letter home the week of July 26 highlighting the various mitigation measures in place for the school year. You can re-read that communication for a detailed outline of all the measures. However, a summary of these measures being implemented at OHS include:
Face masks will be optional for students, guests, and staff.
Students must wear face masks on buses and school vans. In addition, we must follow the mitigation measures of any field trip site we visit. Teachers will communicate these mitigation measures before the trip so that families can decide whether or not to give their child permission to attend.
We will continue to promote safe hygiene practices such as hand washing and providing hand sanitizer.
Please stay home if you are sick.
Schedules and lessons have been built to only support our face-to-face instructional model. We will not approve any personal self-isolations or arrange for students to live-stream into classes.
Academic Calendars and Important Dates
Please click here to check out the academic calendar for this year. Please consult this calendar when scheduling appointments, booking vacations, and planning other events.
The calendar has 4 designated Career, College, and Life Readiness Days highlighted in red on the academic calendar (September 1, October 12, March 8, and April 12). These days are designed to provide grade level specific support to promote our vision of career, college, and life readiness.
On these days, only specific grade levels report to OHS for these various activities. Please review this website to see the plans for each day!
