IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Stay Accountable, Raccoons!

Hey
Raccoons!
As a
community, we are grounded in our values and purpose, committed to our goals,
and accountable to ourselves and each other! I am writing to you today to call
attention to the idea of accountability. As we prepare for life after high
school, it is important that we develop habits and strategies to ensure we hold
ourselves accountable to our goals. Accountability defines our character as
individuals. We may have all the talents in the world, but if we don’t hold
ourselves to high standards, none of that will matter.
With
this in mind, as you may know, this past month, there’s been a TikTok challenge
across America to steal from and vandalize school bathrooms. Now the TikTok
challenges extend for the entire school year, with a new one assigned to each
month. These challenges pressure students to record themselves vandalizing
school property, sexually and physically assaulting peers and staff, and
exposing private parts in public.
To be
absolutely clear, these types of challenges are deplorable and will not be
tolerated in our community. Students who are found to participate in them will
be referred to the police department for possible charges and receive the
harshest consequences as outlined in our handbook.
We are
better than this, Ocon! We will not let national trends define our community.
More importantly, as individuals, do not let one action define your future and
your character. Consider this…- Hold yourself
accountable and don’t give in to peer pressure.
- Surround
yourself with peers that hold you accountable and push you to be your
best.
- Be a leader
and hold your teammates, friends, and classmates accountable for their
actions, and advocate for those who are victims of these senseless
crimes.
- Represent your
school, family, and community with pride! This is a great school with
amazing students, caring teachers, and an incredibly supportive community.
Do not reverse the outstanding reputation that we have built
together!
You can
always reach out to me, Officer Dawn Hass or any trusted adult if you are a
victim of one of these challenges or wish to stand up and report an incident
that you observed or saw on TikTok.
Stay
accountable to yourself and our Raccoon community!
Mr. Curtis
