Monday, November 30, 2020

Hey Raccoons!

It’s time to start preparing for your transition to the 2021-2022 school year! While we certainly have most of your school year ahead of us, it’s important that we start thinking about how classes and experiences this year may impact our plans for next year.

This post outlines and shares a few important communications regarding the start of our scheduling process and our initial transition plans for our graduating seniors. Please scroll through this message to find the information for your specific grade level.

This is quite a bit of information to review, so when in doubt, contact your counselors with questions. We will be working with students over the next two months to help make their course selections for next year.

Go Raccoons!

Switch to the Purple/Gold Hybrid Model (November 30-December 18)

Thursday, November 19, 2020

Hey Raccoons!

We will resume face-to-face instruction under our Purple/Gold Hybrid Model beginning on Monday, November 30. We plan to stay in this instructional model until Friday, December 18, and will be off school from December 19-January 3, for winter break.

Based on feedback, we have made some modifications to the Purple/Gold Hybrid Model from this past September. While students are assigned to their same PURPLE or GOLD group from this past September, we have made a few changes to our schedule and routine. This includes required afternoon classes for 9th-11th graders.

Linked below are critical communications outlining the academic calendar, modified daily schedule, and slight modifications to the structure of our Purple/Gold Hybrid Model. Please take time to check out the letter specific to your assigned group:

  • PURPLE Students (A-K): Click here for a critical communication on the transition from Virtual to the Purple/Gold Hybrid Model.

  • GOLD Students (L-Z): Click here for a critical communication on the transition from Virtual to the Purple/Gold Hybrid Model.

In addition, our student services staff are available as a resource to support students who may be struggling with anxiety or other mental health concerns during this challenging time. Please reach out to the student services staff at school if you or your family need support. Click here for information on the mental health resources available to all students and families and contact information for our student services staff.

LIVE Raccoon Community Connection (RCC) Monday, November 23, at 8:00 a.m.

Finally, we will host a special all-school Livestreamed Raccoon Community Connection on Monday at 8:00 a.m. The event is available by accessing our online announcements page available here.

If you have additional questions please feel free to contact your counselor, associate principal, or myself directly at CurtisJ@oasd.org.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility.

Virtual Learning Continuation at OHS (November 16-November 24)

Friday, November 13, 2020

Hey Raccoons!

Given that we have not been able to significantly reduce the number of positive cases in our school community and continue to see a large number of students quarantined due to close contacts, we will need to continue virtual instruction through Tuesday, November 24. Our goal is to take the next week to determine the safest instructional model for when school resumes after Thanksgiving break on Monday, November 30. We hope to communicate that plan with everyone by the end of next week.

OHS Families: Please Help with Attendance Data

If we want to get students back into the building, whether in full in person or partial hybrid model, we need your help! Please help us gather important attendance data by:

  • Reporting any student absences as normal (illness, vacation, doctor’s appointment, funeral, personal reasons).
  • If your student is diagnosed with COVID-19, please report that information to us as soon as possible.
  • Even if you’ve reported a COVID-19 diagnosis to the County Health Department, please also contact OHS. There is a significant delay in the information we receive from the County that has resulted in COVID-19 positive students attending school because we were not notified.
  • Notify our attendance office if your student has been designated a close contact and is subject to quarantine due to being in close contact with a COVID positive individual while at home, in the community, or while working.

You can report any absences, illnesses, or COVID-related quarantines to our attendance line at 262-560-3102.

Daily Schedule

We will continue to operate in our Virtual Daily Schedule. The schedule is available by clicking here.

While we will continue with virtual learning, our campus remains open, and many programs will continue to operate as normal. This plan includes:

  • Main Office & Student Services: Will remain open from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each school day. Our offices will be closed during the Thanksgiving Holiday from November 25-November 29.
  • Athletics: We will continue to allow for our athletic teams and programs to practice and compete as scheduled. Students subject to a quarantine order or have an unexcused absence from any class period are not eligible to participate. Practices and events cannot start before 3:15 p.m.
  • Health Services: Our health room will remain open from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each school day. Families can pick up any medications they may need during the closure.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Clubs and activities can continue to meet and follow our mitigation practices. Meetings cannot start before 3:15 p.m.
  • Building Trades 3: Will continue to report to the job site as usual.
  • 18-21 Transition Program: Will report to East Campus as usual.
  • Option 2: Will continue to report to their offsite location as usual.
  • YA and Workplace Learning: Students should continue to report to their specific job sites.
  • School Farm: Will remain operational for Agriculture classes and FFA meetings.
  • Library and Technology Services: Will be open for support from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each school day.
  • Senior Direct Play: Rehearsals will continue as normal, with our goal of opening night occurring the first week of December.
  • Just Drive: Will operate on their regular schedule.
  • Term 1 Report Cards: We will publish term 1 report cards on Friday, November 20.

East Campus WiFi and Structured Work Support

There will be spots available for students to work from East Campus during the virtual learning period. This is intended to support students who want a more structured work environment or need to lessen their WiFi burden or need WiFi access. Our buses are operating under their normal schedule. Students who select to work from East Campus can either be dropped off at East or take the bus to Main Campus and walk to East Campus. If you want to work at East Campus, please sign up here.

Food Service Support for Families

OHS students will have the opportunity to order meals during this virtual learning period.  Meals are packed based on the number of virtual school days your child will have each week, and families can pick up those meals at OHS Main Campus.   Student Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free because of the USDA sponsored free meal program.

Symptom Reporting

It’s imperative that you continue to report any COVID symptoms, positive cases, and any doctor’s appointments time as usual. We are still trying to get a handle on the pandemic and the increased numbers in our community. We will continue to track attendance and positive cases during our absence.

OASD Technology Help Desk

Please check your technology and Chromebooks before your first class starts at 8:30 a.m.  Students who need technical support can also submit a tech support ticket using this form, which is also available on their student bookmarks. Also, support from our Technology Help Desk is available during the school day by calling 262-560-2126 or emailing HelpDesk@oasd.org.

For those who do not have reliable internet access at home, we will provide either a hotspot or a location to access school WiFi. If you need help with WiFi or working from East Campus for internet access, please sign up here.

As always, feel free to reach out to CurtisJ@oasd.org if you have any questions. We’ll get through these challenges together, Raccoons!
