Let's Rock and Roll!

Hi OHS Students, Families, and Staff!

As we approach the beginning of a new school year, the energy, sense of optimism, and excitement around the building have been electric! With the completion of the remodeling projects at the OHS Main Campus and the opening of our new East Campus, the physical appearance of our school sets a tone of professionalism, high expectations, and unity. Now it’s time to ensure our instructional approaches, school policies, and community norms match that same tone.

When I joined the OHS team this past March, I mentioned that summer would be an opportunity for our community to take time, set a vision, and chart our path forward together. We are committed to providing our students the opportunities necessary to be ready for life beyond high school. I have mentioned before that there are only 704 days in the high school experience. In that time, we need to ensure that students have the opportunity to discover their interests, develop their passions, and even figure out what they don’t like before making the decision to attend college, launch a career, or join the armed forces.

In order to do this, we have established several community commitments to help enhance the academic experience by improving attendance, develop a culture of learning that promotes a professional mindset and attitude, and minimize the amount of distractions that can derail the learning experience by adjusting our cell phone policy. A summary of these commitments can be reviewed by clicking here and will be discussed in each class period on the first day of school.

While everyone deserves to define their own path, we all share in a common journey united in our Ocon Pride! We often save our school-wide celebrations for the end of the year, but to symbolize a fresh start, we will gather as an entire community on the first day of school for a cookout. We will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie options along with sides for no charge to our students! You are of course welcome to bring your own lunch if you would prefer.

Following the cookout, we will gather in Rux Stadium to welcome our new staff and students, celebrate the start of a new year, and have some fun! Parents, please consider joining us for this new tradition on Tuesday at 12:35pm in Rux Stadium.

Please feel free to contact me at CurtisJ@oasd.org if you have any questions.

Again, welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! It’s going to be the best year of your life!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!

Monday, August 6, 2018

Dear Students, Staff, and Families,

We are less than a month away from the start of the 2018-2019 school year! Can you believe it?! I hope you were able to have some fun this summer and that you are almost fully recharged for what will be an exciting and productive school year!

This summer has been busy around our campus! I want to thank our technology, custodial, and construction teams and office staff who are working tirelessly to ensure everything is up and running for the first day of school. When you return to campus, make sure you thank these dedicated teammates who take great pride in supporting the learning opportunities at OHS. A few other quick highlights include:

  • This year we welcome several new staff members to our team! You can click here to see a quick introduction and learn more about our new staff members.
  • I’m grateful to our staff members who have been busy this summer attending trainings and working with me on setting a vision as we chart our path forward at OHS. In the coming weeks I will be sharing some of our key areas of focus around improving attendance and supporting students to be ready for life beyond high school.
  • Our new East Campus will open later this month! Access to a second campus will allow us the space needed to accommodate materials and resources for our expanding programs, give us the opportunity to create an environment that promotes community-based learning experiences, and address the need for more space given our increase in enrollment.
  • With the addition of East Campus, we had enough space to expand and remodel the Career and Technical Education spaces. We will be opening our Fabrication Lab and launching our Computer Science and Manufacturing programs this fall, and we have the space designated to bring back our Automotive program next fall.
  • Our main campus has been spruced up with a fresh coat of paint and new signage to match our updated purple and gold logo and branding.
  • We have added flexible seating areas throughout both campuses for students to use during lunch and collaborative work time.

I truly believe this is one of the most exciting times to be part of Oconomowoc High School! Our team only gets one chance to provide a meaningful high school experience, and please trust that I am committed to creating a school environment that holds us all to high expectations, fosters community, and works to build confident, passionate, and ambitious graduates!

Outlined below are several events in the coming weeks that will help ensure a successful start to the school year. For now, I hope you continue to take the time to enjoy your summer bonfires, sleeping in, and that precious time with family and friends.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at CurtisJ@oasd.org or at 262-560-3101 if there is anything I can do to support you as we launch into the new school year!
